Project Overview

Liam, a student in a 9th grade Math 1 class at Berkeley High School in Berkeley, California created this video to fulfill an assignment for a product that would generate and show a connection between two sequences of numbers, and the rate of change of each sequence using skills they had learned in class. The product format was left up to the students and possibilities included booklets, posters, electronic documents, videos etc. Liam, a member of the school jazz band, chose to link his interest in music with what he learned in class.

Students had one day in class to work on the project and the rest of the work was done outside of class. Students shared their projects during their final exam block on the last day of the semester.

How This Project Can Be Useful

  • Highlights student learning through sound and film.
  • Excellent example of a multimedia project that shows how math relates to music.
  • Demonstrates how technology can be used to integrate subject matter.
