Project Overview

Wild Muir for Kids: A Collection of Short Stories was created by second grade students at Big Pine Elementary School as part of their Wilderness Warriors learning expedition, in which students studied John Muir and other individuals who have made a difference. During this expedition they learned to explore and appreciate the natural world around them in their Eastern Sierra backyard.

The final product was inspired by the book The Wild Muir, a collection of short stories that were written by John Muir at a reading level that makes them inaccessible for most children. The students envisioned the picture book Wild Muir for Kids as a way to share these stories and their knowledge about John Muir with other children.
