Project Overview

This set of numbers was created by kindergarten students at the College School in St. Louis, Missouri. Each page contains a number, written by a student in both numerical and text format, and a drawing that has the associated number of objects with it.

The original product was 10 individual pages displayed around the students’ classroom as a way to help them learn their 1-10 numbers. The project idea is very simple, but the execution is of unusual quality – clear, compelling, charming artistically.

This is a similar product to entry #170, which is an alphabet project from the same classroom.

How This Project Can Be Useful

  • Highlights a very simple concept – instead of having commercially produced “number posters” have students create the materials themselves
  • Shows careful work by very young students and yet retains the unique style of kindergartners. Notice the detail in the illustrations. For example, the raccoon on page 1, the roses on page 5, and the turtles on page 10
  • A simple format that is very appealing
