Project Overview
Students from the Gary and Jerri-Ann Jacobs High Tech High in San Diego, California researched, sketched, photographed, and designed this book on the emerging study of biomimicry as part of a learning expedition. Biomimicry is “the process of drawing inspiration from the unique adaptions found in nature and applying them to create effective solutions.”
Students interviewed current and past biomimics and present their case studies with great insight. The “interviews” illustrate the creative process of biomimicry and the biomimics behind these design innovations. The book also includes social commentary and future perspectives.
Students designed, edited and proofed this 309-page compilation as it went through many drafts. The project was created with support from the San Diego Zoo Global and the Port of San Diego. This book and others is available for purchase at https://jvavrahth.wordpress.com/2014/05/24/biomimicry-book-is-here-in-pr... .
