Project Overview

Eleventh-grade students in Portland, ME, created documentary films to highlight the human impact of Hurricane Sandy on residents of Rockaway, New York after studying the science and politics of global climate change and carrying out individual research projects.

The Portland students traveled to Rockaway to see the devastation of the storm firsthand and to film and tell the stories of the affected residents. They teamed up with students at Channel View High School which was closed due to storm damage to create documentary videos highlighting the personal impact of the storm. They also volunteered half of their week to repair and restore damaged homes and businesses.

The other seventeen videos created by the students can be seen here.
