Project Overview

At Casco Bay High School in Portland Maine, each senior student completes an individual expedition during which they study and present on a topic of their choosing.  Herbal Access, a guide to herbalism, is an example of such a project.  In this case, the student was inspired to focus on herbalism after taking a class in her community.

This guide to herbalism focuses on accessing herbal knowledge and how to make herbalism financially accessible.  It includes recipes, information about the medicinal value of herbs and a budget for purchasing herbs in bulk.  The information is presented in a professional published book, along with illustrations also created by the author. The book is available in the Casco Bay High School library.

In addition to creating Herbal Access, this student presented a workshop on herbalism at a local museum, during which participants made their own tea and learned about the history of herbalism.
