Project Overview

This is a weather book written by a first grader in multiple drafts as a culminating project for the end of the weather unit. The entire class wrote books, and all had drafts and a rubric for their illustrations and stories. The stories needed to include the weather in the setting and needed to include weather-appropriate events. A big focus in the stories was the crafting of the characters and the characters' personalities, the crafting of the setting, and thinking of events that could make sense with the setting (including the weather) that was chosen.

The class for this project was a K/1 multiage, and we just differentiated the writing expectations for K and 1st. The final products were used for a "reading hour" in the school library and then a bound copy of each book was donated to the school library for other students to check out.
