Project Overview
High Tech High students in San Diego, California explored issues about food stemming from the simple question of “should I eat that?” as part of their studies in Humanities and Biology.
They began by researching and choosing diets to follow that interested each individual student for either anthropological or cultural reasons. They looked at the reasons why people choose to eat the food that they do from scientific, cultural, historical, political and economic perspectives. They kept food journals to track when and what they ate.
Field research included visiting a farm, cooking, cell micrography, and interviews with experts. The final product includes articles, pictures, and annotated recipes as well as tips, historical context, biological information towards an understanding of the qualities of our food to help answer the question of “should I eat that?”
The final product is an 8.5”x 8.5” 200-page book in full color. The book is available for purchase at https://www.createspace.com/4825101.
