Writing Assignment Description
This lab report explores stoichiometry (a mathematical tool chemists use to analyze chemical reactions). Prior to this lab students needed to understand balancing chemical equations, mole ratios, gram to mole conversions, theoretical yield analysis. The high-quality writing here is the result of a school--wide commitment to increasing students’ complexity in writing through the grades. The scientific writing specifically has clear concise language as the goal and has undergone a critique and revision process with peers and teacher resulting in multiple drafts.
How This Writing Can Be Useful
- A beautiful model of scientific analysis.
- Great example of the practices of the scientist (data analysis, mathematical thinking, explaining scientific process, planning and carrying out an investigation).
- Offers a developmentally appropriate model of scientific writing.
