A Book of Poetry

School: Duggan Middle School

City/State: Springfield, MA

Grade(s): 6

Format(s): Poetry

Subject(s): English Language Arts

Project Overview

6th grade students from the Duggan Middle School in Springfield, Massachusetts created this book of poetry as part of a collaboration between an English and a visual arts teacher.

In this book students superimposed their original poetry - written on a wide range of topics, using several different poetry forms - on top of student-crafted watercolor paintings. Students also included a section at the beginning that describes “how to write” the types of poetry in their book.

This book was professionally produced, using high quality glossy paper, and center-staple bound, using funds from a federal magnet grant, and was sold in the community.
