The author gives a brief portrait of her life and motivation through unpacking the origin and meaning of her first, middle and last names.

The essay was sent as a part of a college application to Dartmouth College (where she matriculated on a full scholarship). She also read the essay to an audience of 1100 educators at the EL National Conference in San Diego, CA in 2015 as a keynote speaker for this annual conference.
