Writing Assignment Description

Sixth-grade students at Friends Academy in Dartmouth, Massachusetts created historical fiction pieces as a culmination of writing and history learning. Supported by models, critique, and multiple drafts or work, students crafted stories with the aspiration of being historically accurate and informational; appropriate in historical tone; and compelling to read. They were influenced by the study of primary and secondary source historical documents, and by historically rich literature.
