Project Overview

This book of poetry was written by 1st grade students at the Genesee Community Charter School in Rochester, New York, as part of a learning expedition on poetry.

Each student wrote several types of poems including “name” poems in which he or she built a poem from the letters from his or her first name; “my senses” poems in which he or she described something based on the five senses; “how-to” poems in which he or she explained how to do something. All of the poems uniquely capture the emotional worlds of these young children.
