Project Overview

10th grade students at Dayton Regional STEM School in Beavercreek, Ohio created this book Adolescent Anatomy and Disease. This project is the culmination of several months of student work and represents a collaboration between the life sciences and wellness and fitness teachers.

To create this book, groups of students worked together to write chapters on the different systems of the body with a focus on the anatomy and diseases of adolescents.  The students went through a process of extensive critique and revision; following the writing of the first draft, students participated in small group peer critique. Next, students met with medical students from Wright State University for more critique. Following additional revisions, students shared their work with their teachers, with the medical students and their peers once more.

Once complete, this book was included in an exhibition of student work at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, a local science and children’s museum. In addition to the book, students also displayed artwork relating to the human body.
