This student-created magazine was the result of a trimester’s learning about food systems. Fueled by their own personal “fierce wondering,” students became experts about their topic and supported one another through the researching and writing process.

In the spring of 2017 the students on the 7 Green Team at Oak Middle School in Shrewsbury, MA partnered with the Mass Audubon Society at Broad Meadow Brook to create field guide materials for their annual fundraising event called the “Bird-a-Thon".
This project was designed to support their learning in Expedition (Module) #2: Knowing Myself & My Community. The title of the assignment was Community Mosaic Portraits. Students created multiple drafts while building their craft in between.
At King Middle School in Portland, Maine, eighth-grade students explore the concept of freedom by first looking at Norman Rockwell’s famous illustrations of the four freedoms, printed in the Saturday Evening Post in 1943.
